NOTES
The SMARTs were a Quaker family and the information above comes from wills, Quaker records & "A brief account of the Ancient Inhabitants of Grittleton, taken from the Court Rolls" (1740). The births of Isaac and Daniel SMART (1657 & 1658/9) and the burials of their siblings Roger and Mary (1677 & 1690/1) were recorded in the Kington Quaker Meeting register, while Isaac's birth was also recorded in the Grittleton parish register, along with his sister Mary's (1654). Later information on Isaac and Nathan is taken from "Early Church Records of Salem County, New Jersey" by Charlotte D. Meldrum (1996).
Roger SMART (J508) is mentioned as a "suffering Quaker" who spent time in prison (Salisbury?) for non-payment of tithes and died there in late 1668.
The surname SMART is sometimes spelt SMARTE.
